Jérémy Schmit - Fine Art Wedding Photographer

MY STORY
Trained civil engineer from the Franco-German University Institute (Metz / Sarrebrücken), I started working in 2016 for a famous construction company in Basel.

I was earning well and things were looking great. However, after 2 years, my life was all about my office work and writing reports in Excel spreadsheets. I knew that something had to change to escape the grey everyday life.

I decided to buy my first DSLR camera just to try it out! I started taking photos on the street and also took photos of friends and family. At some point I became obsessed with photography. I loved everything about it.

The ability to create art and connect with people was fascinating to me. It gave me the creative outlet and the human contact I needed. At the end of 2018, I opened my business as a wedding photographer and since then I have had the chance to continue this adventure forever.

I consider it an honour to be entrusted with the task of documenting some of the most important days in my clients' lives, and I can't wait to document yours!

MY PHILOSOPHY

Every wedding is unique and offers the opportunity to tell a love story in a very different way. My job is to document these fleeting moments in between, to put memories into a tangible form so that my clients can pass their memories on to future generations. During a typical portrait session, I take my clients through different scenarios and let them react to me in a natural way. Reaction always creates the most genuine emotions, rather than actions. Most of my clients tell me they don't even feel like it was a portrait session. It felt more like a typical Saturday afternoon walk in the park with their favourite person.

ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY

As a film photographer, I love the delicate feeling that a film image evokes. Film has made me a better photographer and really forces me to conceptualise an image before the shutter is clicked. It provides my clients with timeless images of their wedding that are difficult to duplicate. However, if digital cameras are better suited to the task at hand, I can also seamlessly switch between digital and film so my clients get the best of both worlds
